Works on the improvement on the cricket ground are progressing well.
The Parish Council has already replaced the roof on the Pavilion. Grants totalling £26,260 have been sought from the East Durham Rural Corridor Area Action Partnership (AAP), Durham Community Trust and Durham Football Association. These will be used to restore the grounds and pavilion and double the amount of public playing space in the village. Work has started on rotovating and reseeding the whole site as well as the installation of a new artificial cricket wicket. This will allow for multiple uses of the field, not just cricket. A seven a side and nine a side football fields will be developed on either side of the wicket. Alongside this local builder Ray Lawson is completing refurbishment of the Pavilion.
When the works are complete we will host a re opening event. This will rename the facility as the ‘Shaun Henderson Community Sports Ground’ in memory of the recently deceased former Secretary of the Coxhoe Cricket Club.
Residents are asked not to walk through or let their dogs onto the field while the works are ongoing.
