Coxhoe Parish Council are proud to have paid tribute to a devoted family man and gentleman following his death in the French Alps, by dedicating a community sports ground to his name.
Shaun Henderson, from Coxhoe, died while on a biking tour in Europe on July 13 2019. He was described as a “quiet achiever”, a “gentleman”, and a devoted son, brother and husband to Joanne, his wife of 22 years. Joanne cut the ribbon at the emotional opening ceremony on May 7th, with a huge number in attendance to commemorate the day.
Described as a “pillar of the community”, Mr Henderson was a committee member at Coxhoe Working Mens Club, playing for the club in the Ferryhill and District darts and dominoes league, as well as being involved in the village’s cricket team, and bike clubs in the North-East. It is an entirely fitting tribute to dedicate the Shaun Henderson Community Sports Ground to him, so his community spirit and love of sports can live on in the heart of the village.
The Sports Ground will be serve as the home of Coxhoe United Football Club and play host to other sporting communities that wish to make use of the fantastic facilities. We also have a newly decorated Pavilion on site thanks to the hard work of Coxhoe Scouts for refurbishing works. We look forward to welcoming parties and events into the facilities as the usage of the space continues to grow.
A huge thank you to Joanne Henderson, and all the friends and family of Shaun, who have waited patiently for this fitting tribute. We are sure you’ll agree the accolade is well deserved and Shaun is a massive miss to his community.
